MISTER BUTTONS & THE DANSE MACABRE PLAYING CARDS

A deck as unique as it is exceptional.
This prototype edition of Mister Buttons & The Danse Macabre Playing Cards is a large-format deck, with straight edges and printed with eco-friendly inks, produced in a limited run of only 50 copies to study print quality at a specialised printing house in Italy. A true collector’s piece.

With its enigmatic and carnival-like figures, skating on the thin ice of existence and accompanied by a short poem for each card, this work is conceived more as a piece of fine art to be displayed than as a deck for everyday use.

A great artistic duo with great stories: Nicholas Kahn and Richard Selesnick, both born in 1964, work with photography, installations, fictional anthropology and deliberately absurd historical reconstructions, always with a strong documentary style.

Their narrative knows no boundaries and unfolds across many different media. They have taken part in over 100 exhibitions worldwide, and their works are included in more than 30 museum collections, including the MFA Boston, the Brooklyn Museum, LACMA and the Smithsonian Institution.
