THE BOTAN TAROT - AKANE EDITION (RED)

Pop culture, mysticism, folklore, and a deeply personal style come together in a unique tribute to traditional Japanese art, especially the ukiyo-e woodblock prints of the Edo period, blended with the flowing elegance of Art Nouveau. Japanese American artist Addi Miyako has created a delicate, magnetic tarot deck that draws from her own story while feeling effortlessly modern, filled with everyday moments and emotions that are easy to connect with.

The term Akane refers to a traditional Japanese red dye derived from the madder root, a colour that for centuries has been used to tint traditional Japanese textiles. This limited edition celebrates the Lunar New Year with an intense ceremonial red that evokes the lacquered dishes used by the artist’s family during their celebrations. The card edges feature this same akane red, creating a chromatic dialogue with the original indigo of The Botan Tarot. The box, with subtle gold details, along with the card backs and the guidebook cover, are renewed with this festive spirit, while the illustrations remain unchanged.

This edition features a new 330 gsm German Black Core paper with Poker Oil coating and a linen finish, slightly smoother and glossier than the original version while maintaining the same durability.
