Lalania Simone shows us how art can be our very own time machine, leading us to Aubrey Beardsley. With a passionate restorer's instinct, the artist brings back to life the work of one of Art Nouveau's great figures, creating The Decadent Tarot. Starting from Beardsley's original illustrations — he died of tuberculosis at just 25 and his work survived only as poor-quality scans from nineteenth-century books — Lalania restores, redraws and digitally composes them without AI, crafting a fresh tribute to an artistic movement that told the hopes of a fragile and optimistic Europe. Lalania Simone Carrillo is a mystical artist "born in the cosmos and raised by the streets", as she puts it. Her mother is Mexican and her father Puerto Rican, but she descends from fifteen different regions of the world: this rainbow of stories and heritages drives Lalania to explore the common root within our human differences. We are all part of something shared, regardless of ethnicity: her art reflects this and her decks are a perfect example of compositions and narratives in harmony.
