You are resting in an unknown forest. There are no other humans around you. Your gaze begins to wander, your mind too. Doubts, certainties, questions, needs: everything takes shape in the creatures of the wood and the undergrowth, beneath the dead leaves, high up in the trunks, in the most unreachable thickets. The characters imagined by Three Trees Tarot that inhabit Thistledown Oracle are silent companions in moments of pure solitude, animals and fantastical creatures that look you straight in the soul and keep you company when you need it most. A search for the magical, but also for the true, captured in 50 cards with hand-drawn storybook illustrations and descriptive sheets to go deeper into every reading. Beyond tarot: it is the magic we imagined as children.
Three Trees Tarot hides two minds, two hearts. On one side, Adam Oehlers, an illustrator based in Norwich whose work has been exhibited from Australia to the United States. His inspiration draws from the classic illustration of Arthur Rackham and Edward Gorey, from pen-and-ink and print-based traditions. Old stories and fairy tales feed and fascinate him, shaping that soft dreamlike world where he works, silently, at the edges of everything. On the other, Stephanie Burrows, a tarot scholar and creator whose passion was sparked while rummaging through a box of her mother's craft supplies, with The Fantod Pack by Edward Gorey tucked inside. Its dark humour had her hooked at once. Today, she and Adam take you by the hand and lead you to places just as unforgettable.
